A Nerdy Interlude
Posted by Charlie Goodvibes on September 16th, 2009I’m not ashamed to say I’ve been disgustingly excited for DJ Hero since I first heard it announced half a year ago. I’m religiously addicted to Guitar Hero for the PS2, and I’ve been resisting buying a “next-gen” console because I haven’t really found a game that screams at me. The Guitar Hero and Rock Band games are awesome, but I have everything I really want on the ones I’ve already bought…aside from the odd downloadable song that interests me, but enough to drop $300 bones on a PS3 or XBox 360.
DJ Hero will likely be the game that finally breaks me. The mashups, from what I have seen, are incredible, and the inclusion of artists like DJ Shadow, Grandmaster Flash, and the late DJ AM bring a lot of credibility to the music included. All that aside, a few days ago DJ Hero nailed it home (to the level that most of my friends are tired of hearing about) by announcing a well-hidden, but incredibly important addition:
Daft Effing Punk:
I’ve said before, and I’ll say again, that Daft Punk is one of my hands-down favourite musical acts. Videos like Michel Gondry’s for Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger, assembled from hundreds of clips from concerts, have led me to the well-established fact that there is really no sum of money I won’t pay to see Daft Punk if and when they ever return to Canada on a tour date.
Their inclusion in DJ Hero not only as contributing artists, but seemingly as playable characters brings a level of joy to my being that it is not good to discuss in polite company. I eagerly await the youtube videos to start pouring in, as there have been a few copies spotted in the wild…
Bottom line is, I’m stoked, and I may have actually found a game worth buying a new system for. Good job, Activision.
