I love video games. I love music. When the two collide, I get happy in ways it is not polite to discuss in public. Portal was one of the best games I have ever played, and I always found GLaDOS to be an incredible character. The voice work (done by Ellen McLaine) was top notch, and it fits perfectly with this song.

To the best of my knowledge, Victims of Science have only produced this song, and it’s well worth the listen. Give it a shot:

Daft Punk – Harder Better Faster Stronger (Alive 2007)

My love of Daft Punk is something that borders on legend. I have often said that they are one of the few bands that I would pay a pretty obscene amount of money to see live, and if they tour in 2010 I WILL be there. Doesn’t matter what it takes. I don’t want to do an “I effing love…” post because it would take me all day to post the songs that I enjoy.

Missing their show in 2007 still holds a place as one of the biggest sad face moments I have, and it never gets easier when I listen to Alive 2007, which is my favourite of their albums. The mix of Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger and Around the World has been listened to over 100 times on my mp3 player, and if there is one song that will finally burn out my iPod, it will likely be this one. The video is also an exceptional work, directed by Michel Gondry’s brother Oliver from hundreds of videos submitted by concert goers.

DJ Champion – No Heaven

I found DJ Champion in the best means possible – No Heaven is the soundtrack for a video game trailer. The game Borderlands used it to show off the gritty, futuristic world that your character could kill its way through (viewable here), and I was totally engrossed in both the game, and the music.

It turns out DJ Champion not only kicks ass, but is also Canadian. I haven’t seen any local shows, but now I know to keep an eye out for them. The really important thing is that No Heaven is a really great song, and you should definitely listen to it.

Stanton Warriors – Who Are The Warriors (Bass Kleph Mix)

Every few nights I used to longboard half-way across Guelph to pick up my ladyfriend after work. It was late, and the busses usually weren’t running anymore, and being the caring person that I am, I didn’t really want her walking home alone for an hour in the middle of the night.

One of the songs that never left my late-night mix was the Bass Kleph remix of Stanton Warriors’ “Who are The Warriors”. Half for the fat beats, and half for the fact that The Warriors is one of my favourite cult movies of all time.

This song is smooth, satisfying, and just the right length to clear a parking lot riding low and slow on a longboard. I realize that this statistic is relevant to nobody but me, but hey…that’s what blogs are for. It’s a solid song from a solid group, with an awesome throwback to a great movie. Everything I like in a mix.

I Effing Love … Michael Mind

I want to start off a (hopefully) weekly feature where I highlight an artist that I’m currently rocking as opposed to a single song. I think it’s good to look at a bigger picture now and then.

I got wind of Michael Mind from my buddy Zach. He posted the video for “Love’s Gonna Get You” on Twitter, and mentioned that he sometimes wishes he became a DJ instead of a mathematician. I’ve had this thought for a while, but Michael Mind’s beats definitely hammer it home.

His videos are, in my opinion, nothing really to shake a stick at, since they’re just the usual European electronica “random plot + almost nekked womens = success” video style, but his music really does rock. It’s good party music, since it has a stead beat, and predictable patter, but anyone that combines bass beats with “Blinded By The Light” is alright in my books.

“Do you like bass?” is probably the worst question to ask if you’re reading about my music, because the answer is pretty obvious.

I was sent this song by my buddy Matt a while back in a HUGE list of remixes that he gave me one afternoon. I listened to all of them as a massive, 4-hour playlist, and kept the ones that really stand out. This song is a killer workout song, and I really hope that you enjoy rocking out to it as much as I did. It stands as part of a larger playlist of upbeat songs, and generally gets played when I’m zoning out on the subway to bring me back to reality. Give it a listen:
